Pregnancy not only changes the way you look but also make you change many things in your life. You might give up your favourite dress for a while during pregnancy as it doesn’t fit you anymore or you might have to stop eating the food you like. During pregnancy, you might not be able to sleep in your usual position due to the baby in your womb. It many happen that you feel uncomfortable the whole night and keep trying for the best position in which you can sleep. Let’s get into detail of this issue-

During pregnancy lot, many changes occur in your body. These changes in your shape and size can disrupt you peaceful and usual slumber.

Sleep on the side (SOS) is considered as best sleep position during pregnancy. It is better if you sleep on your left side as it will increase the number of nutrients and blood supply to your baby through your placenta.  It is recommended to keep your knees and legs bent and keep a pillow between the legs.


If you have a chronic disorder of back pain then you can use SOS position along with keeping the pillow under the abdomen region.

Women with heartburn issues during pregnancy can try to lift the upper body using a pillow along with the SOS position to sleep.

The solution on the shortness of breath during pregnancy can be solved by lying on your side along with the propped up pillows.

If you are not at all comfortable in this position still try them out as it is beneficial for your baby. You will not me able to sleep in one position for the whole night so keep rotating the positions.

There is certain position of sleeping which can have an adverse effect on the development of your baby as well as your own health. Avoid the below given sleeping position during pregnancy.

Sleeping on stomach:
As your abdomen region undergoes physical changes during pregnancy it is not preferable to lay down on your stomach.

Sleeping on back:
It can lead to many health issues including breathing problem, pressure on the digestive system, low blood pressure and leads to decrease in circulation to the heart and to your baby.

Thus, during pregnancy you have to be careful about your sleeping position as much as you are concern about your diet. Sleep on the right position and sleep tight!
